A day in the life…

20/7/10

Wake up at 6.45 when my boyfriends alarm goes off. Fall back to sleep. Wake up at 7.10 when my alarm goes off. Fall back to sleep. Repeat. Drag myself out of bed at 7.30am. Confused. Wander to the fridge and stare at it’s contents for 5 minutes before choosing a cup of tea as breakfast of choice. Shower. Tea too hot. No idea what to wear. Tea too hot. Badly apply make- up. Tea still too hot. Grab all essentials for the day in a hurry. 8am out the door. Forgot to drink tea. iPod in. Radiohead. P erfect. Delays on the DLR. Great. Delays on the jubilee line. Great. Start to read ‘my little friend’. Not in the mood. Play solitaire. 10 minutes late for work. Again.

Sit at my desk and consider tidying it. Fail.

Check emails yada yada. Distracted by the sound of the kettle boiling. Cup of tea. Finally awake. Meeting with boss to discuss colours for new range. He ignores all our suggestions. Then re-suggests them himself. Humpf. Design a few short satin dresses. Fail. Design a few short cotton dresses. Fail. Go back to designing satin dresses, this time more successful. start to do the pattern for the easiest of my designs. Decide to Pass onto my pattern cutter for the safe bet. Cup of tea.

Stare at my desk and think about tidying it up again. Fail.

Wander to the basement to rummage through fabric. Find the chiffon I was looking for last week. Damn. Attempt to make it back upstairs with 4 rolls of fabric and some off cuts. Fail.  Cut out a few garments to keep my machinists busy. Cut a corset out of beautiful embroidered offcuts I’ve found on my desk. LUNCH. Must remember to thank Boyfriend for packed lunch. Attempt to  start  my book again. Fail. Attempt to read OK mag. Score. Try to ignore constant ringing of phone throughout lunch. Fail. Lunch over. Fit new samples on the stand. Looks wrong. Have a go at my machinists for taking too big a seam allowance. Feel bad.  Fit new samples on my model. Adjust. Alter pattern and re cut. Catch a glimpse of my orange roots in the mirror. Make a note to my self to book hair appointment. Promptly forget. Send patterns out for grading. Swoon over the Grade-line man who comes to pick them up. Another meeting to discuss Pure trade show. Lace up the ‘off cuts’ corset… looks gorgeous!  Happy to be left in charge and finalise our collection. (know full well it will change again tomorrow) Try to avoid colleague who’s perfume makes me feel sick. Fail.Go through photos of yesterdays photo-shoot. Pick best photos of each style. Cost and spec a few garments. Yawn. Remember my boss leaves for hols in the morning. Yessss. Check the factory samples that come in. Terribly made. Have a go at the factory. They don’t speak English. Fail. Cup of tea instead.

Consider tidying desk. Move everything to the edge instead. Score.

5.30. Met outside work by boyfriend and make our way to canary wharf. No delays on the tube. Thank god. Meet friends by the river. Glass of wine and bowl of fries. Perfect. Cinema. Charged for the 3d glasses. Not happy. Watch Toy Story 3. Happy. Back home. Pick up ‘my little friend’  for a 3rd attempt start at it. Fall asleep after first line. Typical.

As of late, I have found myself spending too much time revisiting old editorials. I’ve resisted saving billions of images for fear that my laptop will crash . But when there is a collision of French cinema and all American good looks, then this editorial must be posted.

I have a ‘profiles’ section on The Style Diaries where I asked some of my closest friends what ’style’ meant to them…

Here’s  two more to inspire you.

Every shot in this beautiful film quietly ruined me.

Perfection.
